Google Ads for therapists: a six-day sample

1–6 Sep 2026 · $115.53 of spend · too early for a cost per conversion · through a US agency

The problem in this niche

Google treats therapy as a sensitive health topic. That rules out remarketing and customer lists, and some keywords get limited. So keywords and location do almost all the work.

Many people who type “couples therapy” want the TV show, a job or free help. Both partners also have to agree, so a lead can take a while to book a session. Budgets are often small too, so conversions come a few at a time and tests are slow.

What I did

  • Checked the search terms behind the clicks, to see what people had actually typed.
  • Blocked the searches from people who were never going to book a session, using a negative keyword list.
  • Kept conversion tracking in place, so the account counted conversions, not just clicks.

Google Ads overview, 1–6 Sep 2026: 18 clicks, 3 conversions, 420 impressions, $115.53 spend. Client name not shown.

A six‑day sample. Google shows conversions with two decimals (3.00).

The account

In September 2026 I ran Google Ads for a couples therapy practice in the US, through a US agency. The report on this page covers six days, 1–6 Sep, and $115.53 of spend.

The goal was enquiries from couples ready to book a session. Six days is a small sample, so this page is more about the work than the numbers.

What changed

  • 18 clicks and 3 conversions on $115.53 of spend

    1–6 Sep 2026 · 420 impressions · Google shows 3.00

Six days and 3 conversions are too few for a cost per conversion, so I do not quote one.

For an agency

If your client is a therapy practice, I build the account inside Google’s rules for health ads and keep cutting the searches from people who were never going to book. You get a Looker Studio or Google Sheets report you can forward as your own.
